HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW: MAY 2018!
Summertime fishing is upon us. The shad are showing up in spurts for some easy redfishing. I am cutting the shad in half and seems like the smaller fish take the tail, and the bigger ones go for the head. If shad are hard to find try finger mullet hooked through the head. The perch are not real bad YET, so be patient. The other day we hadn’t had a bite in 30 minutes and all of a sudden we had 4 fish on at one time. Gets a lil crazy then. For those that like to move, live shrimp and a popping cork will work for trout and reds up on the flats. On the weekends plan long drifts, with all the traffic as it is, the fish wont move far. Trout fishing is heating up as the croaker start to be big enough for a hook. They need to outlaw croaker till May 1st so they are stronger and so less of them die. A SPECIAL NOTE FROM CAPTAIN CLARK:
I keep hearing stories about fishing with guides that won’t let the customers fish. Stick it in a rod holder and wait. Then they want to set the hook for you. Not on my boat. If your rod is in a holder, you should be getting a snack, soda, or a beer. I like to explain the strategy for the day then coach the kids or adults on how to git’er dun! We may miss a few, but better than me setting the hook, reeling it part way in, then handing a pole to someone saying here reel that in. I will let the kids fish and do it all. The youngsters love when I let them net the fish also. Fishing is supposed to be fun not stressful. On my boat that is not the norm. Your fish, you catch it. Hope this helps and we’ll see you on the water.
